Paducah, Ky
 

Hello everyone. My wonderful hubby is taking me to Paducah, Ky in October. I am trying to make my hotel decisions. I am currently torn between The Courtyard or the Comfort Suites on James Sanders Blvd. What is everyone's opinion? I also need guidance regarding which stores that I simply must shop at while I am there. My plan is to touch every piece of fabric I can while I am there. I know I won't be able to bring everything I want home with me, so the least I can do is touch it. :-). We will be traveling from Oklahoma through Springfield, Missouri and onward to Kentucky. Are there any shops/activities that we simply can't pass up along the way? We are stopping at Grizzly's on the way home to purchase a new wood lathe for my Hubby's birthday/Christmas present. Patiently waiting your feedback.

Have Fun!! We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott West on Technology Drive when we went in May of last year. Clean, friendly, very reasonable, quiet, and very pretty area. Along with Hancocks, try and get to Eleanor Burn's store, of course the Museum, the Murals, enjoy a picnic lunch along the Riverwalk and pig out at Cracker Barrel!

There are only 2 fabric stores in Paducha that I found. The Riverwalk is interesting.

Hancock for sure and Eleanor Burns Auilt in a Day store. Fabric is $6.00 a yard and they have a back room with $3.00 a yard fabric. Enjoy your stay.

Also, just west of Hancock's is Calico Country. And across from museum in an old house is Quilter's Attic. Carol Brayer Fallert, the quilt artist, has a studio downtown near there too.

If you get to Murray, KY check out the Murray Sewing Center - always good selection of fabrics and usually have tables of $3-$4 fabrics as well!!

Eat at Lambert's Café (home of the throwed rolls) in SIKESTON, MO. No credit cards accepted there, but delicious food. They constantly walk the tables with their sides and the rolls. You will be so full when you leave!

Springfield, MO has some nice quilt shops.

Be sure you have an absolutely empty credit card upon entering Hancock's of Paducah and at least almost an entire day. You will be walking into a Wal-Mart size super center quilt store. They not only have almost every line of quilt fabric on the market today, they most often carry the entire line. I didn't know what to look at first but then I soon settled down and shopped, shopped and shopped.

Make sure you do not miss the Museum - It is the best. Each time I have been there I went at least twice.

for sure the quilt museum is a must see! and Handcocks of Paducah is a must shopping day, check out the rements tables, up front to the left as you go in, and the batics are in the back right side. I go in at least twice a month, and to the museum at least one a month. So much to see at both. Carol might not be home, she and new hubby are off on trip. I will not say all I heard as do not know if all is correct, but if it is I wish her all the very best in her new venture! she is a wonderful artist!
There is quilters ally close to the museum. The flood wall, and lots of antique stores in downtown. Have a great visit.

I love Quilter's Alley it is on 4th street close to the expo hall. I go every year when I go to the quilt show and end up buying more there than at the vendors.

The Quilt museum is a must see if for nothing else but the stained glass windows. Quilter's Alley is nice shop.

Many good and a few questionable, but fun memories at Lambert's in Sikeston.

There is a store out in the country south of Paducah called Backyard Fabrics. It is south of Paducah about1/2 hour and all
her fabric is $5 except her Batik. I think it is 6 now. She has wide for backing too. Store hours are 9-5 Wed. thru Sat.
The place is in a building next to her home and behind the pond. She is a wonderful person. Her # is 270 7051017.

Of course Hancocks is a must, but the prices at Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day are very good.

The museum was wonderful. It's a must see. The quilts are wonderful. I was there for a few hours in awe!!!! Eleanor Burns prices are $6/yd for most. A few are a little higher. The back room is $3/yd. have fun shopping and seeing all the lovely quilts.

My DD lives in Paducah and we went to visit her last weekend. Hancocks of Paducah is an absolute must see. It closes at 3 pm on Saturdays and we were running late - so called our daughter and said that we were going to Hancock's before going to her house to make sure that I had enough time to shop - poor daughter - coming in second! She did meet us there about 2 pm and we shopped for about an hour. I am pretty sure that Quilter's Alley stays open on Saturdays till 5 pm. Don't think that Eleanor Burns stays open too late on Saturdays. You may want to call ahead at all of them to see what their hours are. That reminds me, I still have a pile of batiks to pre-wash that I got there!

Forgot to add: There is a Hampton Inn really close to Hancocks of Paducah that we stayed in that was fabulous. We got a handicapped room by mistake and LOVED it as it had more room in it and the bathroom was very open. Also, there are two wonderful quilt shops in Springfield, MO and a couple of wonderful fabric shops also.

Calico Country Sew & Vac is very nice too. Just down the street from Hancocks . Their main store Is in Carbondale, IL.

Carol Bryer Fallert Studio is downtown.

There is a Lambert's Cafe in Springfield just off HWY 65 if you miss the one in Sikeston.

patti's settlement ...in grand rivers ...food is great .....and there is a great shop in benton ky and the address for hancocks is 3841 hinkleville road there are a quit a few really nice hotels close by and that is a good location to stay near food .,mall, and and right next to the interstate.....have fun

I love Paducah! Wonderful friendly people, pretty small town feel. Go to Hancocks first--it's right off interstate. Sales people are very friendly and helpful. They love working there and are quilters. They invited my friend to their quilt guild meeting. She loved it. Ask them anything--they live there and know the place.

Thanks everyone for all the information. I am so excited. I told my husband we were packing an empty suitcase for to bring home all my stuff. We will also be stopping at Marshall's Dry Goods in Batesville, Arkansas on the way to Paducah. Sunday was my birthday, so I have saved my birthday money for my October trip.

Make sure to see the murals on the river wall!
