Going to Honolulu and Maui. Can you help me with some quilt shops?

I'll be going later in the year and will be interested in answers you get.

On Maui ... it's not far from the airport on Dairy Road .... if you're going to Kihei or Kaanapali you'll be on Dairy Road
you will pass Costco, K-Mart on your left, this store is on right side of road ... http://www.fmart.com/ Maui is my favorite vacation spot ... enjoy a few sunsets for me !! Aloha ! |
I was going to list the quilt shops that I go to in Maui but I found this web site so you can check them out. I have found great fabric while on the island. http://apassionatequilter.typepad.co...i-quilt-shops/

I went to one on Oahu but I can't remember the name. I believe warehouse was in the title and it wasn't too far from Honolulu near a shopping mall. Got some really cute prints for quilting and more for apparel! I decided to make my own dress and not pay the outrageous prices they wanted in the stores!

Lived there for a couple years ago and there are not that many quilt shops there. My favorite is Kaimuki Dry Goods, 1144 10th Avenue # 100 Honolulu 808-734-2141. It's less than 10 mins. from downtown Honolulu. They usually have a good selection of sale fabrics and as well as a wonderful selection of asian, batiks and hawaiian fabrics. I always buy there when I'm visiting!

On the main drag of Honolulu, there is a quilt shop warehouse that is nice. Not cozy and special, but has lots of fabric. Now on Maui, I did not go to the one on Dairy Road, I went to one further down in Kehi, it is a lovely shop. It is called Maui Quilt Shop. Lots of "Hawaain" applique patterns, and fabulous batiks. I think it is is in the town Lahina right on the coast line. Worth going to. Loved the ladies there and were so helpful. Took an Hawaain applique class while there for $10 plus kit.

I'm going too!!! I leave next Tuesday for three weeks...two on Oahu and 1 on the Big Island. I did a quick search and got a whole page of quilt shops between the two Islands...I added the above suggested too. My DH wants to bring an extra suitcase just for fabric purchases. I told him not to tempt me...I will fill it up! I'm interested in adding more to the list or if anyone has suggestions for the Big Island, I'd love it! Have fun! Here are the shops I found on Oahu:
Kaimuki Dry Goods Ltd 1144 10th Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816 (808) 734-2141 June Fabrics 938 Austin Ln, Honolulu, HI 96817 (808) 845-5400 Fabric Mart 1631 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, HI 96826 (808) 947-4466 Anne’s Hawaiian Quilt 307 Lewers Street, Honolulu, HI www.anne-hawaiianquilt.com Quilt Hut 98-029 Hekaha St # 24 Aiea HI |

There is a new quilt shop in Maui. It is a year old. It is named "Sew Special" phone is 877-6128. They are located in the Queen Ka'ahumanu Shopping Center. Email is [email protected]. The store is HUGE and if you love batiks, well need I say more? When we went to Maui/Kaui as soon as I checked into our hotel I was checking out the phone book/newspaper and asked the hotel info desk for local quilt shops. I found them ALL and a couple that I stumbled on by accident, lol. I ended up buying another suitcase because of all the fabric I had purchased. I need to warn you, no specials. You will be paying West coast prices, $9-$13 a yard. The fabric that you get there you will not find here on the mainland so still worth the price.

It would be a good idea to call for hours and
location before trying to find the shops. The Fabric Mart on Kalakaua is the only one I have actually visited. Batiks were $7/yard in November. Quality and prices vary as they anywhere. Who needs an extra suitcase when you can use flat rate usps boxes and not have to lug them home? It's also like having present delivered because I couldn't remember what I'd bought! Organizing my stash the other day provided another opportunity to "open the present" again. :-)

Fabric Mart in Honolulu! I had 71 yds. of fabric shipped home! Just ask any taxi driver to take you there. I could have spent a lot more time there, but we would have missed our plane. That would have been fine with me but my hubby thought I had spent enough time there. LOL

Fabric Mart!!! That's the place! Had a great time there! I sent mine home along with all my souvenirs since I was going on a cruise on a Navy aircraft carrier. There is no room for luggage!
