Im going there on vacation and staying at Shelter Island. I was wondering if anyone new of any Quilt shops near by?
|
You must hit Rosie's Calico Cupboard. Huge shop, lots and lots of fabrics, good prices.
Try Googling quilt shops in San Diego. |
I know, I know, I know, choose me!
Cozy Quilt Shop in El Cajon. 2940 Jamach Rd. Suite H. I went yesterday and as soon as I walked in I heard two Hello's. They have always greeted me when I walked through the door and although it has been several months since I had been there they called me by name. The staff are all friendly, knowledgable and if they dont have the answer to my question, they know who to ask or where to go , for the answer.  Tell them about the Quilting Board. I mentioned it yesterday and I am sure they would love to know who you are. Welcome to our neck of the woods. I live in Spring Valley. ;) |
I dont know the area at all, are both of these near Shelter Island. I cant wait to go but its not until Aug 17th..But Im excited to get away.
|
Both of the ones mentioned are great. I also liked Quilter's Choice in Chula Vista when I visited.
|
Neither one of these are real close to Shelter Island.
Rosie's Calico Cupboard is at 71st on El Cajon Blvd. Cozy Quilt Shop is in Rancho San Diego on Jamacha Rd. http://www.rosiescalicocupboard.com 7151 El Cajon Blvd. San Diego 92115 (approx. 20 min.) http://www.cozyquilt.com 2940 Jamacha Rd. El Cajon 92019 (approx. 30 min.) Here are the links. You could do mapquest to get driving directions from your hotel. Where will you be staying? Is this your first time in San Diego? |
We are staying at the Bay Club Hotel and Marina. We have been to San Deigo about 3 times but it was about 10 years ago. We are going to the Zoo and then I want to go to Rosie's for fabric and since it will be my birthday, thats my gift. After that its the beach and just relax.
|
I just did a mapquest:
Rosie's Calico Cupboard is 14.08 miles away, 22 min. drive. Cozy Quilt Shop is 20.11 miles away, 28 min. drive. I hope you can get to both of them. :D |
Im going to try. I know I can get to one of them, but I would like to get to both. Thank you.
|
You will LOVE that hotel..it's right on the bay..the military ships come & go & it's just so awesome to see them come through the channel.
I live up the street from Shelter Island! Rosie's is a must. It's about 20 min. from the hotel. |

You can sign up online for their online news letter and it will send you a coupon. Have fun and then eat at DZaikens sp? afterwards. Enjoy!!!!! |
Not as nearby but Quilt in a Day is in San Marcos as is Paradise Quilters and a little down the road in Vista is Fat Quarters. You could make it a quilt run!
|
Yes Im sure my DH would love a quilt run, but it will be my birthday, so Ill see. Thanks to all....
|
You can take me to the Zoo when you go. Lived in San Diego several years ago and went to the Zoo at least twice a month. Absolutely fascinating. Always wondered who was in the zoo, people or animals.
|
if you have any long arm buddies, The quilted Rose is just a couple shops down from Rosies. I was in long arm heaven!
|
Love those shops.
|
Skavanau,
I live in Vista(San Diego County), and there are about 20 quilt shops in the county each with it's own speciality. If you want to 'PM' me, I can get you more information for most of the shops. Chris |
We were in San Diego to visit my brother & neice back in late 70s (yes long time ago) & the Zoo is a must do. I'm sure it's changed some, but fabulous. That was before computers were out & I wasn't into quilting yet. My how times have changed.
|
The last time I waas at the zoo wa 1994. So its been awhile, I cant wait to go and go to the quilt stores, which has changed for me alos, back then it would have been craft fairs now it quilting fairs
|
The Zoo has changed quite a bit since then! All for the better, too! I love the new way of showing the animals, make sure that you go by the new elephant exhibit!! The kids loved it! Take the tour bus, it's well worth the money.
Have fun in San Diego! We are taking two of the grandkids to Sea World in July. |
Have a great time. We are going in Aug 17th thru Aug 23.. Cant wait
|
Im in San Diego now ..I went to Rosie's and had a not so good experince. Is there any other shops around here. Natually I lost the list you sent me. Thanks
Sharon |
Oh no! What happened? San Marcos has Quilt in a Day and Quilter's Paradise. Vista has Fat Quarters. those are in North County San Diego.
|
Hey Sharon,That's a bummer about Rosie's.
Let's run you up the coast instead of inland: From I-5: Starry Night Hollow, in Encinitas, 895 Saxony Rd Aretoy, in Oceanside, 1656 Ord Way then across the 78: Fat Quarters, in Vista, 728 Civic Center Dr Quilt in a Day, in San Marcos, 1955 Diamond St Quilters Paradise, in Escondido, 1451 Montiel Rd, Ste 140 I love all five of these shops, and the staff are all friendly. If you want some other shops (I have more favorites), pm me and I will give you my phone number, and could possibly even meet up with you, I'm not working until August 30th now. Chris |
Went there and was treated like I didnt exsist. The thing is my husband gave me 200.00 for my birthday and now I havent spent one dollar.
|
There is a new small fabric shop in Old Town. It is quite interesting and close if that area is on your agenda. The Spirit of Cloth at 2802 Juan Street. There is a great yarn store next door.
My main shop is Rosie's so that is a good bet. |
All times are GMT -8. The time now is 10:51 PM. |
