travel to Nappanee IN

going to be in Nappanee, In on July 25,26. Any members there?

bjolly 07-14-2012 04:48 AM

I am going for the first time in August for the craft fair. Any tips you could give me?

jillnjo 07-14-2012 07:49 AM

I have a tip for both of you! I am familiar with the area and know of a wonderful fabric and quilt shop located close to Nappanee. This shop has lots of quality cottons and great prices! It is well worth checking out. Store hours are 8:30 to 5:30 Mon.-Sat. It is approx. 7-8 miles NE of the city of Nappanee. There is no on-line site as far as I know.

This is a beautiful area of IN. Take a drive through the country in Elkart Co. and see gorgeous well kept farms and country life as lots of children and horse and buggies and road side vegetable and fruit stands are there. The drought has taken a toll on the green side of things, I'm sure. Enjoy!!

And don't forget, Nappanee isn't that far from Shipshewana, the best fabric in the nation. Go to Yoders in Shipshewana.

jillnjo 07-14-2012 08:55 AM

That's right! But not only Yoders, go to Lolly's in the Davis Mercantile Building in Shipshewana! You have about 45 minutes from Nappanee to Shipshe.

There are no Sunday sales in the town of Shipshewana.

Dont forget the basement room under Lollys where the SALE fabric is located. Also try the handmade pretzels next to Lollys. The bulk food store across the street and down from Yoders is pretty amazing also. Check out the hardware store across the aisle from Yoders fabric area for interesting items you wont see many places.

Yes, you MUST eat a homemade pretzel if you go to Lolly's!! The mercantile building is a fun shopping adventure altogether. Actually, the whole town is!

Lots of cool stuff in that neighborhood, haven't been there in a few years. It must be a sister to where I live, as I lived in Goshen County WY which has a town called Yoder. In Goshen, IN check out the "pill box" in the corner of the park. Lots of antique shops around there too.

Don't forget Erica's is in South Bend. Northwest of Nappanee.

You guys got it all--- Yoder's, Lolly's, Lolly's downstairs 'Boat Load' --so much fun, pretzels ahhh !!
I have been there twice this summer-- and really broke the bank!
Yoders has great shoes-- believe it or not the Amish store has Spring Step Birk's, Clark's.
If you are in Shipshe the bulk store is fun too! Good ice cream!
Wed is auction at the Flea Market. This is a real auction. 8 auctioneers going all at the same time in the barn. Be ready for sensory overload- which I love.

If you are up for the huge Amish meal go to Essenhaus or Blue Gate in Shipshe.
Upstairs in the Merchantile Bldg has a good simple lunch-chicken salad and of course pie ala mode!!
Sweet Corn Charlie's -farm stand across from Essenhaus

Can you tell I love Shipshe?
Enjoy being with the Hoosiers!

Thanks Ladies, I am driving our motorhome to Wakarusa IN for servicing the end of Aug. and I was wondering what I was going to do for up to 2 weeks. Sounds like I can spend my time at fabric stores and Shipshewana. Yippee!!
