Want to go to Sisters Oregon
 

I am going to be visiting in the Seattle Area in July and want to go to the Sisters OR show on July 14. Does anyone know of a group or tour that does a day trip from the Seattle area for this show? Am not sure my sister would enjoy the trip and really would love to go.

I don't know but I want to attend this year also - I have tried to find reservations near Bend and it seems to be impossible - I will check back here to see if someone else knows the answer.

Good morning, It might be difficult to get reservations in Sisters, but you might try some of the outlying towns - I usually stay with a friend or make it a day trip from Beaverton so lodging has never been an issue. As far as transportation to the show, you might try checking some of the local quilt shops because some of them run busses over there for a day trip. I know that Fabric Depot in Portland usually takes a bus over. I think the cost for the trip is usually about $75 (more or less).

My must haves for the trip are - comfortable clothing (it gets warm), good walking shoes, my camera and I usually pack a lunch. Getting there early and walking as much as you can in the morning while it is still cool is the best. They usually have water stations and plenty of areas that you can sit and relax. I like using my neck cooler when it gets warmer in the afternoon.

I have to admit that it is much easier with your own car - I keep a cooler full of water bottles and ice (and our lunches) and we have been known to go back just to sit in the air conditioning - lol. Last year, we moved the car from the coveted parking spot over to the city park and spread out a quilt on the lawn for our lunch. My daughter treated my girlfriend and I by making our sandwiches and serving us while we sat and relaxed. It was almost like being in a restaurant, only better.

Hi, I have been to the famous outdoor quilt show in Sisters Oregon 3 years ago and last year. Plan to be there the night before to get there early to watch how they put them up. Some stores have t-shirts on sale as little as $6.00 of all kinds then the quilt shirts are up to $20.00 Wear a hat as it is always very sunny.Plan to do a lot of walking. It is worth all you get to do.Everyone walks down the streets. quilt for fun grandma G

You should check with LQS in the Seattle area, to see if they have anything planed. But I don't know if you will be able to find a day trip from Seattle to Bend and still be able to see the show. The rooms in Bend have already been booked, but in the area around Bend you might still find rooms. Or if you are a member of any of the lodges - ie:BPOE, etc.... A lot of the time they have camping spots you can get for little $ or free. Good Luck

The Sisters Show is a must see for all Quilter! The accomadations are hard to find. The neighboring towns of Bend and Redmond may be helpful.
The town opens it's doors and streets to greet "ALL" quilters on this day. The show is the most glorious display of color and design imaginable.

On the other hand, I have an airmattress that I can put up in my sewing room here in Redmond...also have a sofa... much cheaper! (free! :D )

There is a Yahoo group that is devoted strictly to rentals for the Sisters Show. I got a great 3 bedroom house, 5 minute walk from the quilt show a week before. This was 2 years ago, but on the list they seem to have stuff available up until the last minute. I think I only paid like $200 for two nights, too.
There are day trips advertised from the Seattle area, I think I saw one advertised at a quilt shop in Bellevue last year.

I know that Fabric Depot in Portland does a bus trip, so if you could get to Portland by car, train or bus you could go from there.

Seattle, to Sisters, in one day would get you there too late, the trip is too many miles. You could drive from Portland to Sisters, or find a place to stay in Salem. Checking with the Quilt shops is excellent advice.

DUH, I just remembered, the United Methodist Church, Oregon Idaho Conference, has a camp ground at Suttle Lake (CABINS) and you can make reservations to stay there, some churches take buses, or car pool. Conference Center is located in Portland, OR, phone number 503-226-7931.
