I will be going to Franklin/Nashville in a week with my sister. She is military and has to go for a class. She will be there Sunday thru Wednesday and I am getting to tag along. I will be in Franklin at the hotel during the day while she is in class. And after class, we hope to do some sight seeing.
What are some good places to visit/sight-see in either city? And of course, any quilt shops near by?? :mrgreen: And thrift stores too! I love bargains! LOL!!

There are some Civil war sights, the Battle of Franklin was fought there and there is a tour you can take. There is also the Battle of Nashville site. We toured both of those when out there 2 years ago. My DH is a huge history buff and Civil War fascinates him. There is a fabric store that I went to that had way way too much fabric crammed into their space. They were moving though, but not to a much bigger place. I believe they were going to stay in downtown Franklin. I suggest walking the "downtown" main street there in Franklin, there are cute little shops, I think some thrift stores etc.
We also visited the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. DH just reminded me that it flooded this last spring, it may not be back up to visitor status. It was awesome, a huge place within a huge dome with great gardens.
I was there for a wedding.

So sad about Opryland. I attended a conference there and it was so nice.

There is a very nice quilt shop in Franklin, TN, The Quilting Squares Quilt Shop at 107 Confederate Dr, Suite 1, hours M-F10-5, Sat 10-3. I always stop there when passing near there.

In Franklin, there is also a huge quilt shop called Stitchers' Garden. Sorry, I do not know the address, but it is on a side street off of Highway 96 near Interstate 65.

The Carter House is a great place to tour and will give you a sense of what it was like during the Civil War. Carnton is also another huge home to tour with a cemetary of both Northern and Southern soldiers buried there.

There is also a really old cemetary just off of Hillsboro Road, between 3rd and 4th Avenues. Monuments from the 1700's.

The downtown area has lots of great tourist shops.

As you have probably guessed, I grew up in this area.

Andrew Jackson's home,The Hermitage, and Belle Meade Plantation are two of my favorites. Google to get info.

Not sure what your exact dates to be here are, but there is a 12 store Middle Tennessee Shop Hop that starts Saturday Sept 18 and runs through Oct 2. You can call 615-794-4769 for more info. You would get to see LOTS of quilt shops and LOTS of the area.
