how long did it take you?

(are those cliffs? i'm totally unfamiliar with that geography.)
Ermm, no that's supposed to be sky with the late sun shafting through the clouds, but even I think they're clifs and I KNOW it's sky! How long did it take? I didn't count and as usual, I did it on and off but probably about 15-20 hours in total, best guess. :-D

Here's a better shot

Close up - hand embroidery, silk ribbon, couched yarn and FMQ

more hand embroidery and beads for texture on the rock

Drier lint clouds - we have a white wash that produces pinkish pale grey lint and a dark wash producing charcoal grey lint. I'd definitely do this again! I think it works really well.

Thanks Hilary - I'm pleased with the details and effects in this so it was a great learning process but I'm just not loving the overall composition. Oh well, it's hanging in a dark corner of the dining room until someone buys it! LOL

I rather like the textural look - makes you want to give it a feel when no-one is looking. I'm going to check my dryer filter now.

Love it. What a creative use of materials. Thanks for sharing.

P.S. Is that the Cobb in "Persuasion"?

Yes it is - also features in The French Lieutenant's Woman, book and the film was shot there. Meryl Streep had to be tied to a post on the end as the sea was so rough, she was in danger of being swept away! The post is gone but you can still see the bolt holes in the stone.

Thanks for the info. I am a Jane Austen fan so its nice to know what the Cobb looks like.

I would really like to try a landscape quilt. Can you give me any tips on how to go about it?

Well there are various methods. You can either piece the background with seams or oversew raw edges and then couch yarn down to hide the seam lines. I got a few books from the library and had a read then kind of used all the skills I already had plus some new ones I read about and came up with my own hybrid method! I have so far worked from a photo which gives you a composition to start from. I trace off the lines I want to use then scale it up by hand to actual size of the quilt using the grid system and from there, I make my pattern using freezer paper for the templates. It is very much trial and error and experimentation - I didn't find one single technique that suited me in it's entirety! :-D
