I love it! I just finished one too and that pattern does save time! I love the combo of fabrics!!

Its very pretty, and not a fussy pink...its hot pink, and looks greaat with the black and white.

Since I don't have any of the books, I wouldnt know what to recommend.

the squares were cut 8" in this quilt. Only needed 12 blocks for a quilt, very fast.

I have done them with 3.5" squares, 3 color and 2 white, and called them dimentional bow tie. Same block and it made a cute baby quilt.

It's a beautiful quilt and the pink just pops on the black and white fabrics. I bet she will love it!

This is very pretty. Will have to make a charity quilt this style. I have lots of B&W scrap pieces.
I've been making small quilts for the charity group but they are in real need of twin size all the time.
