Yooper, if you look at the first picture of the whole quilt, the floral strip at the bottom is the original fabric.

Prayers and Squares is a national organization. We make (usually) lap-size quilts but do (usually) less machine quilting than for other quilts. Then we get together and put string through them without tying the knots. When someone in the church requests a quilt for a friend or family member who is sick or in need, we put the quilt out on the patio between services and members tie the strings and say a prayer. So when the recipient gets the quilt, s/he knows that s/he has been prayed for dozens of times. http://www.prayerquilt.org

What a beautiful blessing for a quilt. My church has a quilting group but I am a beginner & ashamed of my work so far but will look into this in the future, thank you for letting me know about this.
