About two years ago my neighbor’s wife passed away. She was a quilter and a machine knitter. My neighbor gave me her knitting machine. An Brother KH-930. I also received her old singer. It has been in my basement for about a year. I didn’t think it would work, but I kept it thinking I would eventually use it for decorative purposes. I saw a post here the other day about antique sewing machines and decided to take a look. It is a Singer Model number 201 Made December 19, 1947. Elizabeth, NJ . She needed a good cleaning and oiling…. Followed the directions in the manual…. Downloaded it from Singer’s website…. It works GREAT!

This got me thinking about my Grandmother’s old Singer in my mom’s basement. My mom will not part with it even though she said it’s broken… My mother doesn’t sew, but has sentimental attachment to the machine. My mother’s machine is much older … 1910… Singer Model Number 15 Made June 2, 1910 Elizabeth, NJ . It looks like my grandmother converted it from a treadle machine. This machine needs A LOT OF WORK! Needs new wiring, belts and professional cleaning…. But what a great find!

Oh what memories are held in those machines. I recall hours setting at my mothers feet watching her sew on her tredle machine. Precious times! Thank you for bringing those memories back to me.

The 201 from your naigbor is a wonderful machine. I would love to own one. Use it for quilting and piecing. You will like it.
