I started out in the main forum asking for ideas on what a rainbow quilt would mean to everyone. I received some amazing feedback! I decided that with the number of FQs I had that a bargello would be the way to go.

I have finished all the bargello part and am now adding the borders. Here's my quandry... the thing is as long as my sofa but only about 33" wide with one border on it. It's pretty narrow. With the second black border running down the length, it will be about 37" wide.

Is it going to look odd with super wide borders but a very narrow border at the top and bottom?

I added the black print border because I felt that no matter how I add to the borders, the eye needs a break from all that color and pattern.

    Thoughts?

Nope, YOU are making it and YOU get to choose the color, pattern and the size. Just make it wide enough to hug around your shoulders, or whomever you are aiming it towards.
It's lovely and will be appreciated by the lucky one who gets it.

I think beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I think that it will look super regardless. Of course there will be others that think differently. You need to decide what you like and stick with it. What I see now, is simply beautiful!!

    It's done!! (5 months later)

I took all the extra strips I had, cut them down, pieced another section and added it on top. The finished size is 74"x51" or something close to that.

Because the front was so busy, I couldn't decide how to quilt it so I tie-tacked it with magenta embroidery floss. It has a layer of batting and a cream colored fleece backing. Super snuggly and warm!

I used the machine-binding tutorial on YouTube that someone posted here a while back. Mine didn't turn out as nice, but it works.

I did one long line of stitch quilting on each of the boarders to help give stability.

I'll take better pictures later today.

    Done!!
