Celeste--I was just joking with her because it's strictly a horse magazine. It's full of glamorous professional shots of horses in ads, with a few articles sprinkled in--all related to training, showing, caring for minis. I've never seen an artsy craftsy idea in there. There's another mini magazine--a new one (the editor there is publishing the Quail Summit visit story--see website page about) seems more likely to use a story about a quilt. She's not connected to a registry. When she started she needed lots of pictures--so many of mine have been in there. She does say "submitted by Little Church Minis" or my name.

Who knows--maybe she'll change her mind, or the others on staff will ask her what the heck she was thinking. :D I just asked her if she wanted to see the picture because we were emailing about extra copies of the snow maze story when she asked for more stuff and I had just finished the 4 rows was still dancing in excitement.

Celeste--thanks for the website suggestion--if she wants this idea--I'll be sure to ask that she include it.

At the cost of mags these days I think a trade off would be great! :D I know what you mean about hauling water. Our water system is 750 foot of garden hose from the house to the barn! LOL Fortunately this year has been wonderful for us two seniors. We have 7 bathtubs for water for our animals so when the freeze comes we just break ice and move horses from yard to yard. Needless to say we fill them all to the brink when the water will flow. So far I've only had to carry one cantainer down for my pigeons in the hay room. PHEW! Thank goodness for "global warming". :P We have had years we had to fill buckets in the house and carry them in the truck to fill the tubs. Biggest problem with that is you only have half buckets when you get there. Hope your quilt makes the mags. It's just too fabulous for words.

Wow, Barnbum! You had better prepare yourself for an onslaught of horse folks who want you to make a quilt of their darlings once that magazine article comes out. Everyone will want one!

I'll PM you, Minda. No sense cluttering up the picture section with that!

Hey Barn, Love your quilt and can't wait to see more progress on it. I'm sure there are some other mini lovers that get the mag. that may also like crafting and/or quilts! It seems there are plenty of horse lovers on this site.... Hope the editor takes your article, that would really be fun!

The border squares are done. I didn't like how they were looking in the middle--so I made some color changes mid square and love the results. LOVE the results. :D (see smile dance). I had to switch to a darker final log and made the decision to be a little less scrappy--it was going to be too busy for me. I love how there are all blues for the top--then mixed for the sides, and all green for the bottom. Whew!

Note--the squares are just laying by the quilt--nothing is sewed together yet.

Here's the trouble. The final squares are supposed to measure 5 3/4"; mine measure 6". So much for needing the spacers they suggest.
There are 5 squares not even set around the quilt. So--my plan is to sew the border sides together, then see how off it is, and to adjust the barn section by adding spacers there--matching colors as best I can.

Will that work? Will it look okay? :?: :?: :?:

I do want to play around with rotating the squares to see if there's a better way to lay them. Any suggestions there?

I do love the way it's coming, but I'm a tiny bit discouraged with the size issues. I think I can make it work--but my weekend is about over, so I'll think on it and play with it this week before sewing anything together.

Any advice anyone can offer would be so appreciated. :!: :!: :!:

PS--I just did some math. The center piece measures 32.5 by 42.5. The squares are 6". If I consider seam allowances 6 squares should end up at 33.5, so I'd have to add 1" total to the sides. 8 blocks should end up at 44.5, so that'd mean adding 2 inches total to the length.

Does that work? I think I'll sew the sides and tops together before I make any adjustments to the center...but it's not too far off, I guess. Well--in the grand scheme of things. Heavy sigh.

Oh Barn!!! It's just beautiful!!! I think if it were mine I would make the border logs like the top of the first pic. With all the dark "triangles toward the outside. I think it would make the barns more open and airier. With the dark to the inside it kind of "squeases" them in and with the ziggy zag it draws the eyes away from the barns. What ever you choose though the barns and the body of the quilt is just fabulous! Good work!!! :D
