I really wanted two photos of Kennedy, my barn buddy, on this wall hanging. It's for her b-day in June. I finally decided bricks and gray would work--NOT. I decided to switch the bricks with grass and make the new piece go from top to bottom. YUCK. Then I decided to lower the piece and add a sky spacer at the top--and left it at that. It sure doesn't look like what my mind sees. but it's GOOD ENOUGH!

The picture of both of us was published in a mini mag twice. My son took it. The other picture looks like there's a tree growing in the barn--but I liked it there. :-)

I added a grass and sky border to help the size (15.5" by 37"). I'll bind it (someday) in blue and green--or maybe use a small checked blue green fabric I have--or find a color that works all the way around. I also may add a tiny border on the sides so the trees aren't next to the binding.

Now I have to practice free motion quilting because I now have 4 tops to do--plus I have another one of these almost done.

Oh no. I just noticed there are trees in the wrong places--I switched two of them. Back to the seam ripper......

I might as well change that path while I'm at it--just grass I think.

I'll post new ones when it's over.

How does this happen? I triple check.

I didn't notice until just now--looking at the picture.... :(

I love the way you incorporated real photos in the quilt----very, very nice! Beautiful quilt! (I just don't know when you have time to quilt with your little horses, family, job and everything....all I can figure is that you probably don't sleep LOL)

Joan--well the weather was horrid this weekend (see photos in Chit Chat), but I had the horses in and out--there were many runs to the barn. But I quilted while doing the wash yesterday. Today my daughter hole punched my printed out block directions and got them in a binder while I quilted. The horses went all most the day today. This afternoon I shoveled paths for them to get out back for tomorrow morning (5:30 AM) and did my school work. Piece of cake.

There was more time this weekend than most.

Too bad I have to redo everything I've done! More than once!!!!

Sigh.

I love this hanging so much! Putting the pics in is a great idea.

It definitely gave me the thought that I would like to make another house wall hanging (it's a very simple house block w/6 windows) only add a pic of each of my family member in a window and then perhaps sew in the name and birthdate of each person. I think I can do this fairly easily ~ something I wouldn't attempt (but I know someone out there would) would be to make up a family quilt for a grandparent and have each house represent a child and their branch of the family. Just some thoughts that YOUR quilt inspired!!! :D

ilena--the woman who's quilting my bigger barn quilt made 4 Tree of Life squares (I posted a photos of one a while back)-one for each season. Then she printed family pictures and cut them out--they were on some kind of stiff paper. But she pinned each of her siblings' families to the seasons--each having their own based on birth order. She said she didn't want to put the actual photos on the quilt due to divorces and births. She wanted to adjust as needed.

It was for her parents' anniversary.

Sad but true (the divorce part not the birth!). I will have to do a single house for my family, that is once this boy comes!!!
