Default Big block Dresden Plate - opinions

I am trying to use up scraps and only use yardage from my stash. I am doing a dresden plate with big blocks, 24". My mom has cross stitched little pics for me and I am using them in the centers. For backgrounds I am using tans and creams from stash, centers are going to be various other colors from stash. Here is the first block. I think I am going to QAYG and use red or yellow for the sashing so I can make it pretty big. My frame will only hold up to a double. I just can't decide if I like it or not. Would rather have lighter backgrounds but I would have to buy the fabric and and I'm trying not to do that. Any suggestions?

this is beautiful, as is. use what you have.

now, having said that, only you can decide how much it bugs you. put it up on the wall for a few days and live with it. then reevaluate. if it still really bothers you you may want to bite the bullet on the background and change it. or, you can go ahead and see how it is finished. if you still hate it you can always give it away.

I like what I see. I think that the colours are lovely. The background fabric looks ok to me though you need to decide if you like it or not. Personally, I think that it is absolutely gorgeous. Best wishes.

I really like this method & your colors are very good together with scrapes from your stash. Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing finished quilt. Kayrn

This is wonderful. Keep going!

Just remember to audition the sashing before choosing. i like red with the beige background. Try a rusty red circle if you can.

Are the centers all going to be gold or different colors. If all gold then I would countinue with that for sashing IMHO.

This is going to be awesome when finished.
peace

is the other side of the background fabric lighter? if so you could always turn it over & use it that way- i pay for both sides of my fabric & use the side that fits my needs- sometimes the (muted/lighter) backside is a better choice than the side others would (normally) use...and once it is all done- no one except you knows.
i like it the way it is- but you could also use a (stand out) thread to sew the plates onto the background to make them (pop) out a bit more if you wanted to ...
the plates are wonderful- great use of stash fabrics!
