I had to take a long drive Saturday and went past a huge quilt store so I stopped to see what they had. I found a great border fabric for my "memorial to a bridesmaid dress" wall hangings. I have the borders finished on the first one. Two more to go!

It's getting dark so the picture isn't the best.

Very pretty! Are there pieces of bridesmaid's dresses in the quilt? Great idea!

The border goes great with the shells! Looks like the ocean.

The large star points and the cornerstones are fabric from a bridesmaid dress that I wore. My mother in law decided that for their 50th anniversery they would have a vow renewal ceremony complete with bridesmaids and groomsmen. Men can wear a tux at any age and look good. Middle age women don't look all that great in any style of bridesmaid dress. None of us were very happy about wearing the dresses but we went along with it. The ceremony was held at a beach house in North Carolina. After it was over I threatened to turn my dress into memorial pillows or something. The dress got stuffed back into the plastic bag and shoved in the back of the closet for the last three years.

Then last month I got the new issue of "Quilter's World" in the mail and in it is a pattern called "Summer Shimmer" that was totally perfect to make the wall hangings from. The original has blue silk for the star points and a floral on black where I used the seashells.

What a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed your telling of it. It makes the name of wallhanging take on a whole new meaning. Love it!! Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us.
