It is 12 1/2 inches before sewing to another block.

The Log Cabin block which was originated in the 1860's to honor Abe Lincoln, has traditionally always had a red or gold center square to signify the hearth, or fire burning in the center of your home.

I've never seen a log cabin quilt I didn't like! I need to make one again as I haven't for several years.
