Well, I couldn't believe my luck today. I was visiting a friend and we were talking about what we look for on Craigslist. I mentioned that I usually only looked for antique sewing machines, etc. She said..."why?" Of course I told her "just because I think they are cool and I'd like to have one"..So...she says, "Well I have one...I'll let you have it for what I have in it". So we go look (I can hardly contain myself at this point). She takes me to this cute little solid wood cabinet, flips it open, lifts out the machine and says. "Here it is, I think I paid $30.00 for it" :shock: So....After I pick myself up off the floor, I told her I'd be HAPPY to take her....if she was sure. So she hollers at her DH that she is selling me the machine, did he remember what they paid for it...He hollers back "Yeah, I think $15.00" OMGosh...at this point I am hyperventilating.... :shock:....so I say..."Again, I'll take her if you are SURE"...So she says, "Oh yeah, and it will sew too and the light works!"...then she asks me if I'm SURE I want her!!....
Of course, they loaded her in my truck and I played all afternoon...This is my 1st venture into the older machines so I have lots to learn evidently. I have a couple of questions to figure out. But here she is!!!! Bare with me while I post several pics...

Welcome to the club. Once you get used to this old machine, you will wonder why anyone buys the new ones. For quilt piecing they cannot be beat. Just keep it clean and oiled, and you will never have to have a repair guy touch it.
Looks like it might need a little tension adjustment, or to loosen the pressure on the pressure foot? Did you clean out the "toe jams" (lint between the feed dogs and around the bobbin race) under the plate yet?

Your tension is off. It looks like the top tension is too tight. Loosen the tension knob just a bit and try sewing again. What is the serial number? I like guessing what the machines are. The serial number will tell. The little clamp in the cabinet may be an oil can holder.

I think the "what is this", in your picture, is a place to hold the can of oil that used to come with these machines. It looks like just the right shape.
Your tension needs adjustment, which is causing the fabric to pucker. Try adjusting (lowering the top tension, first) to see how that does.

The tension is too tight causing the fabric to curl. Beautiful machine. Find the serial # on her and go to this link and find out when she was made, model # etc:) http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers

Thanks for the info. ya'll....I told DH that I could count on you guys to know what I needed to know.
Its so cool...I found out that she is a Model 128, 1946 model (she is a few years older than me!)
Will I have to order needles and belts from Singer to get the correct items or can I get them at a regular Singer sewing center?
