I too went to a used store yesterday - everyone here has me convinced it's ok to use bedsheets for backing and I found 9 queen sized flat sheets in some beautiful prints and plains. They were on sale for $1.99 each. I'm happy!

What a find! I have a lot of the original KC Star patterns --the old clippings were going to be thrown away--fortunately the heirs asked if I might like the boxes of patterns, etc.Of course, I said yes--though I thought they were all sewing patterns, as that is what was on top. The clippings are now in a nice photo album for posterity--and my use, of course!
I got a box of vintage cotton fabric at an auction last year--and there was a half-completed quilt top in the bottom of the box--PLUS 20 hand-appliqued floral blocks! It cost me $10. My only regret was not buying ALL the boxes--found out later, they EACH had a quilt top in the bottom------
