My family is a little "different," and when my daughter was growing up, my husband always called her ugly. Sounds awful, but it was all in fun, and when he wasn't teasing her, she'd get upset and think he was mad at her. Anyhow, she went to the mall and bought him a t-shirt with her picture on it, thinking he would never wear it. Wrong! He wore it often. A few months after he passed away, she asked me what happened to the shirt. Well, here it is, turned into a quilt for her birthday!
