Dear Jane - Dee-licious
Niceeeeee. A couple of simple ones done today! Thought I'd show a picture of my Excel design grid that I use to keep them organized and so that I can check color for the next few blocks. If any of you are Excel experts I'd like to be able to make each block enlarge as I click on it. The blocks are D6 & D7. Next is D8 which has 4 small diamonds and 4 small leaves (melon seeds) that will all be appliqued but I'm determined to do another block on the big B/W that I'm hand appliqueing. Picture of one block below. Thought I might as well post it while I have a captive audience!

I love the spreadsheet! Is it hard to do? Your squares are very nice! I'm new to the list and I have done about six squares on my DJ quilt. I bought some plastic sleeves for baseball cards to keep a sample of each fabric in a ring binder so I can keep track of how many of each color fabric I have. I'm starting with the easy squares and I'm doing them by hand.

Hi and welcome! There are also many sites on the internet for Dear Jane, so be sure to google it! There is also a BOM on the board of other members doing the quilt.
You are very organized with your fabric! That will be one BIG binder when you are done! Depending on what fabric style you're using you can increase your choices by swapping - for me, I like civil war type & I found another member doing the DJ and we both had a lot of FQ's. So we cut them in half and swapped them! Now we each have twice as many!
For some reason I started with A-1 and just kept going! I do machine piecing, freezer paper piecing (a favorite) and applique.
the spreadsheet is easy. If you have Excel I can send it to you and you can add your own photos! (when you insert a picture you can format it to .83 x .83" or use the little "handles" to resize it.)
I am using a 4" ring binder to hold all the block instructions and pictures of the ones I've done. With staples in the corners I'm going to need a 20" binder!
How do you like hand-piecing? Have you done it before? I love hand applique and quilting but don't know about piecing! Thanks for your comments and good luck!

You may call those "simple" but I call them "simply fabulous"! You are so organized! Wanna come work on my sewing studio? LOL! I am so interested in these quilts (I LOVE Civil War repros) but just don't have the patience to do one. But I can drool over yours, right?

Anytime, Rebecca, as long as you don't drool all over them! Thank you for the compliments! If ever you do do one, please learn to paper piece with freezer paper the Twiddletails way! I will never do it any other way - no tearing off bits of paper or anything! That's what makes the blocks so accurate. Try one or two just for fun!

Oh and my "studio" is the kitchen of my old "double wide". Living alone, I never have to clean it away! But yes, with Grandad's old kitchen table making an "L" and the little machine table in the corner I have a great set-up! Rack of drawers under the left table and all is hand - though I make myself get up to use the iron! Never in my life have I been organized for myself, but its all part of the fun! Sorry, sweets, yer on yer own for that!

First off - thank you so much for sharing your progression of your Dear Jane. I am thoroughly enjoying it. Also, thanks for the link to Twiddletails paper piecing tute. I've been wanting to learn to paper piece but was at a loss as to where to start. It seems as though you've given me that start. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful work and for inspiring me.

You're very welcome "Lolly". That paper piecing works even for the smallest pieces and you sure don't need to cut the pieces so bit (after a bit of practice!) I still have to think out when its for diagonal lines!
