I like the first layout better -- with the contrasting alternate squares. Maybe they could also be crumb squares, but with darker colors?

are you thinking of using sashing or butting them up next to each other like in the second pic?? My opinion for whats it's worth- I think without sashing would look awesome..

I am working on all my crumbs right now! I think it is a great way to show off your fabrics you've used. I would use a bright color for the squares..to look cheerful and make the white stand out...either a red or blue. Whatever you do it will be nice!
