Dragonflies and Iris quilted by feline fanatic
This is a client quilt. It is all fusible raw edge applique. The problem with raw edge from a LAQ standpoint is that we must quilt inside each applique in order to anchor it and get it to stay put. Parts were already coming up on this. My personal preference is to ditch applique but that can't be done if it is raw edge. It is still a really cute wall hanging. The pattern is called Dragonflies and Iris and can be purchased on line. Just google Dragonflies and Iris quilt pattern, it will come right up.
The client wanted me to do the water current in silver thread like the pattern but gave me carte blanche for everything else. It took me a long time to come up with an idea for the navy blue parts, but once I decided on that woven diamond lattice I was really pleased with how it came out. I also quilted in a ghost dragonfly and copied the applique iris in some of the diamonds and at the lower left corner of the pond. The sky background I took inspiration from Green Fairy quilts and used her feather swirl motif, fun and easy!
This was done with two battings, W&N on bottom and Hobbs wool on top. I stitched down the applique with Superior Monopoly polyester monofiliment thread. The rest (except for the metallic) was all done with Invisifil thread, a 100wt polyester. Love that stuff.
Here is the quilt before quilting and you can see how I mark it prior to quilting:

AMAZING! It was pretty cute before but you really pushed it over the top! When I win the LOTTO I'm going to hire you to teach me to be an awesome quilter (you'll have your work cutout for you!)
