I made this tote using 5 fat quarters and an extra piece of fabric for the straps. You will have strips left for a second tote. This was a "create as you go" project using a QAYG method. I think it turned out pretty nice but there are a few things I will do to improve it the next time. The recipient was really thrilled with it so that's what counts. The pocket in the lining was a top of a sheet leftover from some curtains I made for someone years ago. You can see the decorative satin trim. Didn't have enough to do a pocket on the other side.

Used some decorative stitching on the straps.

The fabrics were a bundle from Michael's that were on sale for $2.29. Not the best of quality but then if the bag is really used by the end of summer it will probably need replaced anyway. Not sure what it would wash up like.

I love it, I want to make some bags, someday I'll break down and buy a pattern for them...really want to do one of the bow tuck ones. Great Job!

It came out of my head but I could probably write the directions down for you follow. Give me a day or two. I have 2 "quilts for kids" I need to get finished and mailed. If you don't hear from me by this time next week send me a pm to remind me. The dimensions for the tote came from a VERY OLD Simplicity pattern. It's dated 1976 and cost $1.25.
