I found this sewing machine. It runs like a charm, I was having a garage sale, and I went back into my mother-in-law's shed to get (just a few last things), and I said you know I have seen that box over there for years, I wonder what it is, and Lookie what I discovered a Singer ? I looked it up with the serial # EK----- and it was made in Scotland in 1955 I think. and I put oil to it and away it went. My question is the second pic. WHAT IS THAT HOOK FOR in the lid? I must not put it on correctly because you hear it scrapping the machine when I put it on.

Singer EK series

Not a Featherweight machine - they have a flip up sewing bed

Check this site!

Does the hook in the lid hold the pedal?

The number on the tag on the front lower right will tell you - Featherweights are 221 and 221K. That looks like a great machine - any of the older Singers are wonderful.

Might be a 66 or 99. Hook probably was for foot control pedal.

Looks like the hook in the lid might possibly fit over the wheel.

Sometimes these machines originated as hand cranks, which were later converted to electricity by adding a motor. When this change is made, the cover sometimes no longer fits the machine.

Be very careful not to scratch the machine; good cosmetic condition adds a lot to the value.

Looks like there is a "hook" in the base that you can move so you can tip back the machine. The base was used as a storage container, and you might find some accessories in there. If the base is not big enough to hold the foot control, then I also think that the hook in the lid is for the foot control. Does the foot control have a button? That is the old kind. If the foot control was switched out to a newer type, that might not fit the original hook.
