I just wanted to share this with all of you because it really touched me and I thought it would be such a great idea. A lady I met briefly shared an idea with me that she came up with years ago. She saved all her household items, such as curtains, cloth napkins, tablecloths, sheets and pillowcases........as well as old clothing and pajamas that her children wore throughout their childhood. She put them each in a box that was labeled with each childs name and when they got older and got married, she made each one a quilt made out of the things she had saved in those boxes. Can you imagine the flood of memories when that child would look at each block? I thought this was such a wonderful idea and I just had to share it with you. It's too late for me to do for my children, but I am going to start doing this for my grandchildren.

What a wonderful and unique idea, I think all of us get a flash into the past when we see certain fabrics, it would be awesome to have them in a quilt and be able to reminisce. :D :D :D

That is. It's kind of like keeping a time capsule of things through time and then turning the whole thing into somethey they can use every day.

My friend who has two boys was interested to know if all of the toddler clothes her boys outgrew could be used to quilt with.

She wanted to hand over all the baby clothes, play clothes and things they've outgrown and have a quilt made with a little of each item.

I told her there is no limit to what can be done.

It would be sentimental for her more than for the boys.

That's a great idea! No kids, so not for me, but may mention to my sis and sis-in-law.

When I was pregnant with each of my children (now 33, 28, 26 and 19) I started writing journals to each of them - talking about what it was like to be pg with them, my hopes for their futures. I have kept those up over the years. I gave them their journals on their 13th, 16th, 18th birthdays and then as they reached 25 and 30. Many of them were filled with poetry that I had written to them ~ I am now taking those poems, their birth announcements, which I designed & wrote, confirmation, hs & college graduation and bits & pieces of clothing and blankets they loved and making each of them a quilt which depicts, in pictures and poetry their growing up years. I am already saving these kinds of things for my grandbabies and keeping journals for them so they, too, will have all their childhood memories made into a quilt one day. I figure it will take me about a year or more per quilt/per kid cuz I spend half the time re-reading all the things I dreamed for them, running my hands over the clothes and remembering what they were doing when they wore them & crying over all the memories! :D
