I am not that opposed to Y seams so never shy away from a pattern that has them. Once you do a bed size quilt full of them like yours (or like tumbling blocks which is the one I did) you become very adept at them and they really do make for a very nice design without added seams. Some patterns just aren't the same without them and there are probably a few that can't be done without them. Your quilt came out wonderfully and it looks like you had no problems at all with all those Y seams.

Most blocks with Y seams are gorgeous, but are an exercise in patience! I'm glad you stuck with it!
