These are my first two quilt blcoks on my own. The green one was first. Of course there are some mistakes but hopefully they won't be too noticable when the quilt is done.

Kyiav those are darling!! I don't see any mistakes at all. You've hidden them well, if there are any at all, which I doubt. :D Those types of blocks are easy to square up after you've finished them as there are no points coming out to the edge. I think you did a fantastic job. :thumbup:

Thank you all for the encouragement and kind words.

The green one does not reach 12 1/2 inches top to bottom.

The red one and the third one I made after posting this I forgot the blue corners on the body of the train.

How do I square up the blocks, I have not learned this yet?

I have 12 of the block pieces precut so I will work on putting those together. I think I am going to have 5 train pieces together for 60 inches, 4 rows of trains will a three rows of trees in between the trains. 80 inches in length, or somewhere extimating.

It took me about an hour and 45 minutes to sew one together so it is probably going to be slow moving. I can't wait to see it together either.

Kyiav~I've made lots of blocks for the same quilt that didn't all wind up the exact same size. When that happens, and I'm able to trim them up (due to the fact that there are no points I'd cut off if I trimmed), I usually just wait until I'm all done making all the blocks, measure them all, then find the smallest one (after it's been squared nicely) and trim all the other blocks to that size. No one will ever know that those 11¼" finished blocks were supposed to be 12"! :D

I've also made blocks that couldn't be trimmed due to a point coming out to within ¼" of the edge and I didn't want to cut off that point. In that case, I just try to "ease" the blocks together the best I can so they fit when I sew them together.

I can't wait to see this quilt when it's done either. It's going to be so cute!!

i have a trick that i'm not sure is really "legal" 8) but if i have blocks that i am unable to trim to the same size, i have been known to add a background border all the way around the block, like sashing. i do it to every block then trim them all to the same size and wallah, perfect quilt blocks.
have done this many times when using paper pieced blocks that are different sizes but i want to mix them in the same quilt.
the thing about this stuff is that you can call it artistic license :lol: nobody will call the quilt police :twisted:
