For those who are interested, I am posting the digital photo my husband took of one of the butterfly blocks in my avatar. These blocks were sewn by Sallie Carter circa 1950. I inherited more than 300 of them from Sallie's daughter, Clara Louise. Sallie died in 1995 and I never got to meet her, but the blocks stayed packed away in a box in Clara Louise's home. We were helping Clara move and this was the box that she was going to throw out! Thank goodness, we removed the top layers of old magazines and papers to discover these beauties just waiting to be free. Those who are talented and creative can see the pieces that make up the butterfly, all of which were hand stitched. Hope you enjoy. In memory of two fine ladies--Sallie and her daughter, Clara.

What a fantastic piece of history you have been given. The block is beautiful. Can't wait to see what you make with them, it will be an heirloom.
