Take the charm squares and divide them into lights and darks. Remember light is relative to the dark. For example the gold could be used as a light. Then either make 4 patches or half square trianges. That would be easy but more interesting than just sewing the blocks together.
I think the T-sshirt quilt looks preetty good. How about using the black polka dot fabric for altrnate blocks.

I love the dots. I made a rag book bag for my DD from white with black dots. Actually it is reversible she can have the rag look or not. She took it to school and her friends tried to steal it from her.
Sorry no ideas for the t-shirt. Im sure someone will come up with something.

Is that black in the t-shirt quilt? If so I would use the black. Maybe take the black and orange and make hour glass blocks for the fillers between the t-shirt square? If the sizes of the t-shirt blocks are different, then frame the alternate squares. Adds movement and more interest. Keep us postee on the progress of the t-shirt quilt.

The dots are awesome! You could make anything out of dots. I just did a pinwheel quilt out of tiny dots. Bigger dots, bigger blocks -- it would look great. With those bright colors all you have to do is find a block you like and go for it.
