Here's a photo of a graduation quilt I made for my nephew. He is graduating next month and then going on to college and wants to be a marine. This is a variation I made from strip quilt patterns. I wanted something that wasn't feminine and somewhat military. You probably can't see it very well, but some of the strips have US Marines printed on them with pictures of jeeps, helicopters & such. The backing is camoflage fabric material.

This was my first attempt at FMQ & I used tear-away patterns from www.QuiltingMadeEasy.com. It's not perfect & was a lot of tearing away of paper pieces, but I am happy with the results. Now that I have tried FMQ with these, next time I'll try my own stipple pattern. I just needed a little confidence builder on my first attempt. Has anyone else used these patterns? I haven't heard them mentioned on the board.

No pins. They are strips about 12" wide and have adhesive either side to hold them in place
