I decided that thread painting wasn't going to work for me. So I decided to take all of the shading/highlights of applique off and do hand embroidery for that instead. Now after looking at it I am not sure about the lightness of the color, I am thinking a shade darker for the thread. What do you think? Any suggestions would be great.

this is what it looked like with the appliqued highlight

Great start. I find when doing animals you just have to keep layering on fabric paint, thread painting, etc. until you get the look you want. Can't wait to see it along its journey (and finished)!

Looking like it will be just fine. I have that colorbook! Maybe a little more contrast would add to it.

What a great project. If you don't think it shows enough, have you considered using crayon crayola to darken the thread or even do some shading on the horse. color lightly and then add more if you need it.

I had not thought about that debcavan. I will have to look into it. Thank you for all of your input. It helps to have more than my two eyes and outlook.

An update to my stallion. I think the darker thread makes it pop just a little more. I put four different colors for the mane and tail. I am getting excited now that everything seems to be coming together nicer.

replaced the light thread for the darker
