A touching story of destruction and restoration. I'm so happy you knew and were able to restore it. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I love the quilt.

I had the pleasure of finishing 3 of my grandmother's quilt tops just last summer. I knew from the start I had pieces, lots of pieces, that didn't belong to these three. I suspected they were for a double wedding ring like yours ...Lots of scraps sewn into arches. Having no idea how to put a wedding ring together, I bought a book that had templates and instructions. It took me a month just to piece it all together. A professional quilted it for me. It's my favorite. I communed with her that summer and I will cherish my memories and her quilts.

Excellent solution. Those family squabbles lead to all kinds of strange behavior! I'm glad to know that the wound has been healed. I sort of like that the background on one side is a different color now but the rings still hold together the two sides of an old argument. What a family treasure you have saved.

I love to see stories like this. All to often these days people don't realize the amount of work and care that goes into quilts and therefore they are not valued. Clearly this quilt was valued, if the sisters fought over it enough that it was cut in half. It is also great to see that such great care was taken to restore it back together.
