Ok, you got me hooked. I found a quilt on the Amish country lanes webside called "Dahlia Star Quilt. - I'm looking for a pattern for the block or a quilt but haven't located it yet. Lots of patterns for "giant" dahlias... but I would love to get that for my to do list if I can. Will let you know if I have any luck :)

Has anyone done this? I am really into flower gardening --so of course, I love this block--but don't really understand the directions. Would anyone do a tutorial if you know how to do this? That would be wonderful as I have never seen this block and it looks very unique. I would love to do it--I think it would also make a very nice wall hanging made out of fun big bright flower material for summer. (or for winter--so instead of looking at the three feet of snow outside my window--I could look at flowers on my wall!)

This pattern is not only an amish pattern as I have one that was pieced in Tn. long years ago. I think some called it a "gathering star". I do not have pattern, just quilted squares. Beautiful pattern, wished I did have pattern for it. Thanks

It is also known as Kansas Sunflower and the pattern and templates are in "Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns" by Leisure Arts. Also known as Star Flower. Many names for the same pattern.

Funny, Charisma just posted a quilt with "vintage flowers" that looks just like what you've posted here. I think I've seen it in magazines and it IS a dahlia of some sort. Very nice effect. Good luck id'ing it.
