I'm using a regular sewing machine, my Janome 4800. Darning foot, with the feed dogs down. All completely freehand just making it up as I go.

you can do it Carol! make some practice 12 x 12 quilt sandwiches, and start doodling. It's just like drawing. Soon you'll get to know what your machine likes to do and doesn't. Mine doesn't like to go around curves, the bottom stitching would pull really loose at the top of the curve. I learned to speed up at that part. what kind of machine do you have and do you have a darning/free motion stitch foot? can you drop the feed dogs on yours?

Babe, you have done a great job, funnily enough I have been practising this pattern, to do on the crazy quilt border...but I bottled it, as I didn't think I was neat enough yet...more practice for me :D

    I have a Janome. I love it.

I have tried a little free motion quilting. I have dropped my feed dogs and I do have a darning foot.

The free motion quilting that I have done is on a couple of purses and a baby quilt.

I will continue to plug along and hopefully I'll get a little better. :)

I think a few glasses of wine is absolutely necessary when trying FMQ!
