This is just a simple Irish Chain with appliqued dogs in the large blank squares. I finished out the design with a pieced border so that the chain would extend all the way to the sides and corners.

I love it. Great colors. The border really makes it stand out.

You really do outstanding appliques. These are just perfect, as was the one of the Cairn/Westie. That one gave me a lump in my throat, reminded me of our Matti as a pup, but she was more gray than brown as she got older. Your quilt is beautiful!

That is just stinkin cute! I have a question as to how you appliqued the dogs. Did you do it on squares prior to piecing the whole thing together or did you applique after the quilt was put together? I haven't started with the applique yet, but sure do want to. Thanks. And, again your quilt is just too adorable.

Thanks!
I applique them to oversized plain squares. Then, after they are all finished and the alternate blocks are made, I square them up to be the same size as the alternate blocks. Then I put it all together. When you applique, the blocks end up kind of "wonky" so you always start with a square that is too big so you can clean it all up at the end.

Beautiful quilt and I just love mitered corners. They really set off a quilt.
