Default Horse portrait

I'm not sure I ever want to do one of these again...it was even harder than I expected. This wall hanging is supposed to look like the photo (printed the photo on the label). It was extremely difficult to get the lines and colors right. And I think the angle of the horse's back creates a wrong illusion. Next time (if there is one) I would choose a more abstract photo to copy, where I'd have artistic license (and not really try to duplicate the image). I had originally intended to do some FMQ for the mane and to adjust the texture, but I'd used the gridded fusible stabilizer and the seams are way too bulky to machine stitch smoothly, so I embellished with hand embroidery.

My fear is that the recipient will have no appreciation for the effort or the end product...and it might be used as a blankie for her dogs haha. To reduce that risk I put a sleeve on the back and am sending her a hanging rod with the quilt.

The squares are 1". Finished, with borders, about 31" square.

Wow! That's some nice work you did there with all those tiny squares! I can really appreciate how hard it is to get equines to look right in a quilted medium. I love that you used the picture on the label too, what a great idea.

I've taken almost the opposite approach with the ones I've done recently here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t215558.html and here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t209642.html ) . I did mine on one single piece of fabric and relied on the stitching to make the design.

I was really interested in what you had to say about the fusible and the thickness of the seams. I've seen instructions for that method and have been thinking about trying it but have been afraid it might be kind of stiff.

I think you did a FABULOUS job on this piece and hope all your work is appreciated properly by the recipient!
