I had to post as it is part of my quilting history :) Here is my very first FMQ square. Needs a lot of work I know - but as it turns out 6 years ago - before I even thought of quilting, my wedding cake had the meandering stitch as the decoration. It was just meant to be I guess :)

Don't get me wrong - I don't think this is pretty in the least. Green with Red? :)

I got my darning foot this weekend and have been too chicken to try mine out yet. I am afraid I will be terrible at it. You did a great job!

Where did you get the darning foot at.

Is it for a low shank machine too.

thanks

Great first attempt! It does get easier as you practice. I always practice with different color threads than the fabric, and different in top/bobbin so I can easily see problems.

I found it on Amazon.com. It was from Ken's Sewing & Vacuum Center. I was a little worried, they had this one for $5.50 and other just like it for like $23.00. Not sure what the difference was but I paid about 12.00 all together.

Low Shank? I probably should know what that means - but I don't :) I just did a search for my machine.

Looks good to me, I do a bigger FMQ and makes the quilt a bit softer. Just practice and don't forget the gloves.

I agree with spacing out the design a bit more! Having the design so tight can also cause the puckering on the backside of the quilt. You are doing a great job though and you'll be a pro very soon! :)

That looks so much better than my first one! I almost posted today saying something like "I finally got the hang of it". I was able to FMQ two pot holders today and they actually came out nice! I had stayed away from practicing for over two weeks because I had become so frustrated with it. I sat down today and it was like I had been doing it all my life! It will get better for you, don't give up.
