Smile Inspired by all the Mug Rugs!

I never did a mug rug (heck, I never even HEARD of a mug rug!) but I was inspired by the ones Patrice posted for the August contest so I just finished one. Its going to my mom for her birthday. We all just got back from Cherrystone Campground in VA which of course is crab and clam country, so this mug rug should recall all the fun we had! The crab and the beach are hand appliqued and I was lucky enough to have some scraps with broken clam shells!

The shell fabric came from Joann's - I think they still have it. The crab was from a batik scrap. Cherrystone is one of the few campgrounds that is actually on the water - most are on lakes. We used to camp on Fire Island all the time when I was growing up - Smith's Point and Montauk Point. I grew up in Central Islip and Bayport!

Love it!! Love Cherrystone!!! My family has been going camping there every summer for the last 38years! I remember when there was only the one bathhouse, the pool by the bay and the "olympic" size pool you had to pay to use. It also only had less than 100 sites.
