Default I really ned help on a backing....

An Amish family made me this quilt top for Christmas and it measures 90x104 Blocks are 12" and so is the Border...so if i cut the Border down to 6 " it will look more appealing i think. so my question is what kind of backing should i use to lelp it look more prettier as the top is so plain and ugly...just not my colors.... something that will inhance the top.

I would find a print that has these colors in it and use it for the backing and a do a 'wrap-around to the front' type binding. Then do some sort of decorative quilting in the squares. maybe use varigated thread???

I think it would be perfect (a blank canvas) for some applique in the blocks!

I would go with a black backing and quilt with BRIGHT verigated thread! Good luck! Have fun and enjoy!

I think that I would find some cute applique patterns and place them in the big blue squares. Or pick some large quilt patterns to fill in the squares. I can see using primary colors for a kids room. Or using it for a picnic "blanket" or you could bring it to the ball field. The possibilities are endless! Good luck with this.

you could put anything you want on the back... it would be a reversible quilt To make the top look better, i would quilt the squares with something fancy, maybe even making them different in each block or alternate blocks.

Make a top that you like and use this as the backing.

I like QuiltnNan's suggestion for using it on the back of a quilt. If you used a nice all over quilt pattern, the blue and black would look good and the quilt would be reversible. Also, if they ever asked to see it you could show it proudly without hurting anyone's feelings.

I would choose a floral for backing and quilt beautiful feathers in the blocks and borders.

Well since it is Amish--I would pick a plain backing and hand quilt it. It's a minority vote. Find beauty in simplicity.
