A lap quilt is smaller than a twin, and it can be whatever size you choose. A twin is 63x87 inches. Most people make a lap quilt rectangular, but the layout I wanted for my dad's quilt called for a large square.

He can also use it for a wall hanging (he has lots of blank wall space) but so far he keeps it on his sofa.

What an unusual layout. I like it very much. Very nice for your Dad, a real man's quilt. BTW you look fine in the picture
