This is the Yo-Yo coverlet that I made about 10 yrs. ago. I used some of every fabric I had used in making every one of the quilts I had made up until then...plus all those solid onesthat my aunt made for me.
I use this over a machine quilted white-on-white quilt.

Talk about a quilt journal!!!! That's beautiful!

My question is this: Did you

1. save a piece of each fabric then make all the yo-yos or

2. make your yo-yos out of each piece and save them up or

3. make the yo-yos and sew them together so that it's been a long running WIP?

What a wonderful family treasure. I just can't imagine the hours and hours of work that went into this labor of love.
It is beautiful.

When I decided I wanted to make the coverlet, I went to my scrap boxes...I usually buy at least an additional 1/4 yr. of everthing and since I never throw anything away, the scraps from all of my quilts were there. So, I just started making yo-yos.
It took me several years to make and I did have a little help from my family.

There are about 2,500 yo-yo. The measure about 11/2 in. across. When I was done making them I had three or four paper grocery bags full.
