I started on this block yesterday. It's for a quilt called "Let Sleeping Cats Lie." (http://www.cotton-picking.com/Large_...LetCatsLie.htm)
I've seen it done in earth tones, and one that was very pretty in navy blue and burnt orange. I'm trying to use fabrics from my stash until I get it pared down some. Mine will be scrappy except for the border, which is a whimsical cat print. My nine cats will all be different contrasting colors. This one has the most contrast of the colors I've chosen. The background is hard to tell, but it is a multi-colored polka dot print on black.
I had a hard time deciding what color to use for the embroidery since black wouldn't show up on the dark ones. I ended up deciding on the same contrasting colors so that each shows up as well as the other.
There are nine blocks in all. The basic block is a snail's trail, which I've never done before. It's a very exacting block! I hope you like my cats.

I have that pattern. I have it partially cut out, but have gotten no further...for about two years! LOL! It's one of my UFO's! Yours has inspired me to dig mine back out though! I used colors similar to the example quilt in the quilt shop! I can't wait to finish it now and use some other awesome colors like you did!
Your block is beautiful! I hope we get to see the finished quilt!
