Default "Let's Roll" Skate Board Quilt

I just finished this quilt from the "Kickflip" pattern in the May/June 2012 Quiltmaker magazine. I have seen a skate board tutorial on Missouri Star, and this pattern is different -- the skate boards are longer and some have pieced designs.

It was fun to find fabric in my stash for the boards. It do have quite a mix of colors here, and I hope that the plaid border helps to tie it all together a little. Speaking of the borders -- they are quilted separately and attached to the main part of the quilt with "quilt as you go" after everything is quilted. I find that system of doing things significantly reduces the bulk when I am quilting on my DSM.

I really want to make one of those - yours is wonderful. Thanks for the tip on adding the borders QAYG.

I wish it had busted more of my stash! I made 2 sets of the skate board pieces, and worked with my 91 year old mother to make a matching top to mine. Actually, the layout is different, but the skate boards are almost identical. Hers is at the quilter's right now, and it will go into the Bible Camp auction this summer. Mine is finished first, but I will wait to put it into the 2017 auction.

I love your quilt and yes, the border ties it altogether. So glad you mentioned doing the border separately, as a QAYG. I have been thinking about doing that and have not seen any tut's on it and this is the first time I heard anyone talk about it. I'm now convinced that I will do it that way.
