    I would do several things different. I wouldn't use the plaid as sashing strips around the squares. I love plaids but they look sorta funny since you can't really match the lines on anyway I couldn't. And I hand embroidered around the outside of the hats and horseshoes with a chain stitch and it was a royal pain going through all the layers with fusable interfacing. I think I would do the satin stitches on the machine around them.
