i have to admit, the stores may be different, although some are the same, and there are still a load of them, but this was the reason that i learned to sew. got my first grown-up machine (necchi) at age 14, and spent the rest of my life in the garment district and soho.

Wow! Thanks so much for sharing that video! How I miss Manhattan . . . I worked there for 9 years before I married, having lived 4 years in the Bronx. Later on, my husband used to take a day off from work and let me go into the City for R&R . . . at which time I would trample the Garment District, looking for this and that! We lived in Freehold, NJ, at the time. We have moved around the country quite a bit since then. My husband plans to take me back for a week next year to celebrate our 40 years of marriage. I can't wait. I wish we could afford to live there in our retirement.

Thanks for posting, Bev. I was there two years ago a few days after Christmas. It was amazing. I was trying to stay on one side of the street on one direction and come back down the other direction, but coming out of one shop you see an amazing one across the street, so you jaywalk across, then come back to the initial side, and before you know you have been all over the place. I got to touch a brocade that was $500.00 per yard and lenghts of beads that were more expensive than my car. At the same time, there were some very reasonable ones in between and it was amazing!!

I really enjoyed the visit to New York through your eyes. What a wonderful slide show of your visit. I watched it several times to see all of the beautiful items.
