I needed something I could start and finish this past weekend. So I made this market tote. I had to cut the material for the outside so that both sides of the tote had the pattern going the right way. It was pretty easy. The pattern was in the Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting mag for Sept/Oct 2008. I used home furnishing material instead of cotton so it would be a little stronger. And NO QUILTING.

Awesome! I love these kind of bags. I shop at an Aldi's a lot, where you have to purchase your grocery bags, and would like to make a bunch up. And yours is pretty on top of useful!

Love your fabric! Good idea, too, on the heavier fabric - something I'll probably do with my next one....maybe denim. I started a tote this weekend with regular quilting fabric and I keep wondering how easily it will wear out or tear. They're fun, aren't they?

I lost all my reusable grocery bags 2 weeks ago. I asked my son to clean out my car for my daughter's wedding. I haven't seen them since. I guess I better make some, I have that issue of the magazine. Thanks for the nudge....

(unless, of course, you would like to make me 8 of them.... he he)

I always go to the clearance section of the home decor fabric of Joann's and only buy that fabric that is $1/yd for the really wide stuff to make my shopping bags. They are a lot more sturdy and I'm getting a really good deal. Although I will say be careful on some of that stuff, there is a coating on some of them that really messes up the plate on your iron and takes forever to get it off.
