I finally finished the memory quilt I've been working on. I used the Flying Fish pattern from Quilters Cache. I still have to put the label on...but wanted to post it as I finally had a dry day to take a photo & enough people to help hold it. I'm going to give it to my SIL in November. The fish are all made with the different materials from my BIL's shirts. He was quite the fisherman so that's why I chose that pattern. I purchased a pale green flannel for the background. The back is a plaid flannel that brings in a lot of the colors of the shirts but I forgot to take a photo of the back. The buttons used for the eyes were the ones from his shirts. I used warm & natural for the batting. The fish are all paperpieced.

I love that you used all the old shirts to make this quilt. It's gorgeous on its own, but to think that there is that much memory worked into the quilt will always make it that more special. And you even used his buttons. How cool is that? I think it's wonderful, and your paper-piecing is perfect! :)

I love the fish quilt. I have all of my kids and husbands old flannel shirts saved. I want to do something like that for them. But, they don't fish.
Yours is great.

Oh Pam! What a treasure! It sounds like you couldn't have done more to make it 'him'! I'm sure your SIL will love it! If it were me, I'd be close to crying when I saw it! It'll be like getting a hug from him everytime she wraps it around herself!

That is so thoughtful! I'm sure she is going to love it, I know I would. She will treasure that for years to come!

Thanks for all the kind comments. I think she will be happy to have it. It was hard to ask her if she would like a quilt made from his shirts so soon after he died but I'm glad I did ask because otherwise she might have given them away. Again, thanks for all the comments. It does help!
