Well, last Friday my hubby asked if I could do a quilt for his mom by Christmas! EEEK! Of course I said yes (thinking OMG WTF!) lol Well, I got it done but it wasn't easy. First, the flannel backing was a smidge too small after washing to match up the lines in the plaid. Soooo, went to another LQS and bought more, washed the same (twice since it's red) and they weren't even CLOSE to the same red anymorel. I know, I know, rookie mistakes, but with work, holidays, and a deadline......

So, after thinking for awhile, my DD, DH, and I decided I should do squares with the flannel backing. The top is cotton and was a kit I got from Hancocks of Paducah last year. She loved it!! I was so worried.

The Second is a storm at sea top I made. JUST FOR ME! How often can we say that! :) I used the book "More Traditional Quilts Made Easy" from That Patchwork Place. It all started with the green w/ brown paisley (almost chartuese) fabric. I started it in early summer. I definitely learned alot! I will definitely be pressing seams open on the next one.

Thanks for looking! I am so glad they are both done! :)

Nice job on both, but that second quilt is just stunning!

If you feel guilty keeping it all for yourself, I'll send you my address! ;-)

Love them both. Great save on your MIL's quilt. Love the storm at sea. I would have never chosen those colors but they are wonderful together. Good job!

OMG you got that quilt done along with piecing the back into squares in one week?!?! I absolutely LOVE what you did with the red flannel backing. Just great! I almost like the back better then the front

Your storm at sea is spectacular as well. Storm at sea is definitely on my to do list. Already have the fabs picked out and set aside for it.

Yup from Friday night to yesterday afternoon. BOY OH BOY! With the whole flannel fiasco, i was reallllyyyy getting worried! My poor hubby felt so bad because he picked it all out. Not his fault, I should have known better.

The SAS quilt was great to work on, I got the fabric for it at The Clothesline Quilt Shop in Avon, Illinois. i work with the man who owns it (well with his wife.)

Thanks a bunch!

I can't believe that you made you MIL quilt in less then 1 week.
Great save on the backing, I think that it looks great, people will think that it's the front.
Your quilt is breathtaking...enjoy
