Default Mitered Corners

The last pot holder I made I used pre-made bindings. I'm working with my own binding now, but my mitered corners are not the same on the front as the back. What am I doing wrong? Is my seam allowance wrong? How do I know what allowance to use?

They look about like mine...
When you get to the end of the side, do you stop one seam-allowance away from the end and pull the binding straight up perpendicular to the previous side, then straight down? And then start right a the end to sew the new seam?
I have been very happy with that method.
Happy binding!
(I think they look fine...)

I sew down to 1/4" from the bottom edge. I pull it perpendicular then back to make a 90 degree angle. I think that's how to describe it. I'm wondering if it's my seam allowances. I have a lot more on the back than I do on the front.

They look great to me. I hate mitered corners on quilts, although I have been doing them lately. I like rounding off the corners so they hang nicer and look better. I don't think that would work good on anything but a quilt.

You might try a 3/8" seam allowance. I cut my binding at 2 & 1/2", fold in half lengthwise, press, then use a 3/8" seam width. It works perfectly.

Does bigger than 2 1/4 make it worse or better? I've usually cut mine 2 1/2. I always seem to have more binding on the back than I do the front, especially at the corners.
