Default More Experiments with Mixing B+W Prints with Color--And How 1 Quilt Became 2 !!

I am continuing to experiment mixing various black and white prints with bright colors. Some work and some don't. This is an example of one idea I had that just I just didn't like the results after I laid out all the blocks, so I separated them and made two different quilts from each pile. The original idea was to alternate the bright 16-patch blocks with the black and white print HST "X" blocks. But altogether, it was just too busy and didn't seem to have the symmetry that I wanted.
So I separated the black and white "X" blocks from the bright 16-patch blocks, and created two entirely separate throw quilts from them. With the black and white blocks, I just added strips of color and hourglass cornerstones, and with the 16-patch bright blocks I added a predominately white "X" to offset and tone down the color a little.
Another learning experience. I think I like the two OK, not may favorites, but not that bad either. I think they are happy quilts.
Now off to the next idea..........

I like the first one the best -

I am always amazed at how changing the colors of the same pattern can make it look so different.

Maniac, I love yours with the black! I debated with using black rather than white, but I had more solid white fabric in my stash!

I think both quilts will be great, and I think you were correct to separate them. It might just have been too busy otherwise. Happy quilts.
